The Energizer Positivity Project And A Vote for EcoAd Project Funding

The Energizer Positivity Program Website

So we’ve decided to change things up a bit this time. We would like you all to help determine which of three deserving projects will receive the $60,000 Energizer EcoAd grant. All you have to do is drop by The Energizer Positivity Project website and vote. With the click of a button you’ll be helping bring long-term benefits to community facilities and the people that use them. This program is called The Energizer Positivity Project as one of these projects will receive ad-generated funding from our good friends at Energizer. Check in often – the winning project will be announced mid-December!

You can vote once a day for one of three projects, which include:

  • The Hope Manor Housing for Homeless Veterans in Chicago is seeking needed funds to support the installment of a solar thermal hot water system in a building designed to house 80 American veterans. Hope Manor’s goal is to help homeless veterans improve their lives by promoting self-sufficiency, building new skills, creating strong support networks and integrating more positively into community life. More info.
  • The Gardena Environmental Charter Middle School in Los Angeles is seeking funding to contribute to the installation of solar panels on a new middle school campus in an underserved area of Los Angeles. The renewable energy project aims to energize the school and community, bringing awareness, clean energy and a healthy learning environment for today’s students and generations to come. More info.

The San Francisco Zoo is seeking funds that will be used to increase water efficiency and renewable energy at the Zoo through the addition of a Solar Car Port and the installation of a state-of-the-art water filtration system in a marine animal exhibit. This system will help the Zoo greatly reduce its water consumption. More info.

Helping Children in Urban Areas Live Healthier Lives

This past week we announced our new partnership with The Trust for Public Land (TPL), and we couldn’t be more excited. Every successful partnership is mutually beneficial to the parties involved. In this case, important projects for our communities will be completed that have been near and dear to our hearts, and they are also exactly what TPL exists to support. These initiatives also seem to be the ones that constantly lack the necessary funding.

TPL, located in downtown San Francisco, has been tirelessly working on land conservation and improving urban areas for almost the last forty years.

“TPL was founded in 1972 with goals of protecting land in and around cities and pioneering new land conservation techniques. Over the years, our work expanded to include projects from inner city to wilderness, and our broad experience has made us a national leader and innovator in city park creation, state and local conservation funding, and using GIS for conservation planning.”

The EcoAd program has a history of supporting park and playground improvements (see Chevy Randol Mill), and a primary focus area for this partnership will be the support of TPL’s successful “Fitness Zones” program. Inactivity and poor diets has lead to high level of obesity in the United States, particularly in low-income urban areas. As a leader in the creation/conservation of parks and outdoor areas, TPL decided that something must be done in order to combat this epidemic.  They have helped turn existing parks into gyms that are free and open to all public use and enjoyment.  The program began in Los Angeles in 2007 and has since expanded to 29 Fitness Zones throughout the greater LA area. The program will continue to expand to South Florida in the next two years with 10 zones in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

This is part of the reason why we are extremely excited to work with the Trust. Helping finance public parks across the country while also supporting a movement to get people active and healthy outdoors is an incredibly invigorating idea. And it’s an opportunity to improve our communities that our advertisers will appreciate as well.

How Is Advertising Like The Sun?

A New Media Model Turns Up The Heat On Traditional Commercial Messaging

It probably sounds like a crazy riddle: “what could advertising and the Sun possibly have in common?”

The answer: more than you might think. Like the Sun, advertising is a vast and largely untapped source of vital, valuable energy. And like the Sun’s, this energy just might provide a solution for many of our nation’s current challenges, including unemployment, climate change, energy consumption, and economic uncertainty.

The sun’s energy is obvious – and so is the waste: every second, that burning orb emits enough heat and light to meet the world’s current energy needs…for the next 500,000 to one million yearsIf we could harness more of its power, the sun could heat our homes, fuel our cars, light up the grid – it could meet the world’s energy needs ten thousand times over – and birth a brand new green economy in the process. But most of its energy blasts off into space.

You have to dig a little deeper to find the unused energy in advertising:

Every year, corporations spend hundreds of billions of dollars on commercial messaging. But once a radio or television ad airs – or a billboard is taken down, a magazine pitched into the recycling bin – that ad impression disappears. It’s gone. If it’s particularly compelling, a consumer might remember it. But more often than not, she does not, and it dissolves into the ether – much like the sun’s unharnessed energy.

Folks are starting to talk about ways to capture and apply the sun’s power, through composting, solar panels, solar batteries, and the like.

At EcoMedia-CBS, we’re interested in capturing the latent energy in advertising – and channeling it toward a broad spectrum of projects in local communities that are creating jobs, saving on energy costs that are paid by taxpayers, conserving water and energy, and generally improving the quality of people’s lives.

Welcome to the new EcoMedia-CBS blog!

Our company mission is to raise public awareness about social issues – and more importantly, to fund solutions – through a new advertising paradigm we’ve developed. By channeling a portion of each corporate ad buy to community projects around the nation, we are transforming traditional advertising into a powerful energy source that aims to create jobs, reduce cost burdens for local governments through energy and water savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve the quality of life in communities across the country.

At EcoMedia, we are as dedicated to creating positive social change as we are to growing and operating a profitable company. Our success is proof not only that companies can thrive while ‘doing good,’ but also that a true focus on each pillar of the “triple bottom line” (financial, environmental, and tangible social benefit) can catalyze and ensure business success and profitability.

It’s no secret that we are in difficult economic times. We see this everyday when looking at under-funded community development projects. But businesses can succeed in this climate when they make sure all of their stakeholders win. This includes investors, consumers, and business owners. This is the true meaning and measure of a sustainable enterprise.

We hope you’ll continue to follow our blog as we explore this emerging arena of social entrepreneurship, investigating the many ways in which innovative ideas cultured in the private sector can be applied for social benefit, as well as the ways in which successful businesses can thrive while contributing to the public good.
